Beginning

The Beginning in Mannar

Our journey began in Mannar, along the River Pamba, where craftsmen from Tamil Nadu settled and began creating traditional utensils, Vilakkus, and oil lamps. Mannar’s unique clay made it an ideal centre for mould-making and metal craftsmanship.

Aaluvilakku

Chettikulangara - Aaluvilakku

A monumental 15-foot-tall Aaluvilakku was crafted for Chettikulangara Bhagavathi Temple. Featuring 13 steps and 1,001 wicks, the lamp weighs approximately 1,001 kg and continues to be lit through daily offerings.

Urali / Varpu

Monumental - Urali / Varpu Pragati Maidan, New Delhi

A 10-foot-diameter, 1,500 kg Urali / Varpu was created as a landmark work of craftsmanship. It is preserved at the Crafts Museum, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Deepa Sthambam

Koothattukulam - Deepa Sthambam (Limca Book of Records)

A magnificent 21-foot-tall Deepa Stambham, weighing approximately 6,500 kg and featuring 1,001 wicks, was created for St. Jude Shrine, Holy Family Church, Koothattukulam. In 2008, the Limca Book of Records certified it as the world’s biggest bronze oil lamp. The magnificent Deepa Stambham continues to be lit through daily offerings.

Lakshmana Iyer Associates, whose story began in Mannar and grew through generations of skilled craftsmanship, traditional metalwork and dedication to preserving Kerala's artistic heritage.
